This was an easy “thing I love” for me to pick. Hot sauce is something I reach for every day.
Everyone has a favorite kind or brand, whether it’s Cholula, Tabasco, Sriracha, Frank’s Red Hot etc.
Hot sauce is a bigger multi-tasker than you may think. I know it can often be dismissed by ‘gourmets’ and foodies alike, but I find that it can really bring a dish to life.
It doesn’t have to be an immediate tear inducer (if you like pickled chipotles in adobo, you know just what I mean); it can be used as a condiment, dressing or a marinade – try it out next time you make fried chicken or want to spice up a steamed or roasted fatty white fish.
Here are some of my other favorite ways to use hot sauce:
- Top off your morning avocado & eggs with a little spice kick.
- Bake it into a cheesy frittata with brussels sprouts and red cabbage or serve it with grilled shrimp.
- Add it to a salad dressing – whisk together olive oil, sriracha, blood orange juice, honey and wholegrain mustard.
- Then add the sweet and spicy dressing to a winter citrus salad made with lacinato kale, blood oranges and roasted edamame.
SO MUCH GOOD. I currently have about five different types of hot sauce in my cupboard. The most frequently used ones are Tabasco and Asian sriracha (the one with the chicken on the bottle, haha!). So good with avocado toast, eggs, all of the things you’ve mentioned above. Also brings a killer kick to the perennial Bloody Mary after a long night out… 🙂
Sounds like you make the most of all your hot sauce varieties — sounds perfect for a Bloody Mary 🙂
haha quite right, Laura 😉 xx
I used to know a guy in Seattle who collected hot sauces from around the world. He had hundreds of them including the famous The deadly bite of a mad tiger. Nice fellow he was! He let us try some sauces from his collection!
That’s a true hot sauce lover Sergey 🙂
