The Organic Evolution and Growth of Maxime Simoëns

In contrast to the glitz and sometimes chaotic nature of a big runway event during Fashion Week, I often enjoy spending quieter times discovering new brands in more intimate settings. For this season, I was invited to explore the Maxime Simoëns collection created for Spring/Summer 2023 (SS23) and presented during Paris Fashion Week.
“I built the SS23 collection around nature which is something extremely present and important in my life, the way of living and creating clothes,” stated designer Maxime Simoëns. “This is also an individual responsibility, as I incorporate upcycling and each piece is numbered.”
Florals play a big role in the latest collection and inspired Simoëns to create a custom print for the garments — resulting in a modern romanticism. Nature and its seasons also provided inspiration for the color palette which is grounded in black, earthy greens with pops of rose red, soft white, and sky blue hues. The result is a unisex and modern collection designed with more feminine and sophisticated pieces, yet are comfortable and easy to wear. “This collection is about love for nature, humans and life,” according to Simoëns.
With a background in couture, then in various houses designing womenswear, Simoëns eventually launched a men’s line. But today, the designer has reimagined the brand, its focus (now women’s/unisex) and even the price point to launch his eponymous brand, Maxime Simoëns. “I am learning every day, having fun, building a company, a wardrobe, a signature, and being independent is giving me this creativity and freedom that I love,” stated Simoëns. “It is a lot of work but I feel very fortunate and I have many more projects to come.” We’re excited to tag along on the journey of this talented, young designer and can’t wait to see what he unveils next season at Paris Fashion Week.
