Creative Director Emma Gage of Melke made her runway debut at Spring Studios at this season of New York Fashion Week. For her Fall/Winter 2023 collection titled “Peaches and Pests,” Gage took inspiration from the Roald Dahl classic James and the Giant Peach and Tim Burton’s 1996 film adaptation.
The result is playful, an explosion of color, and a unique global approach to handcrafted details and sustainability. Peaches were handcrafted in Brooklyn, bugs were embroidered by a Ukrainian artisan and environmentally friendly Italian wool was used throughout.
One can’t help but smile as each look paraded down the runway with subtle and sometimes not so subtle innuendo from the playful details incorporated into each look. Congratulations to Gage on her accomplishment and much thanks to her for bringing a unique POV to the runways.
