Transcendent: Mirror Palais SS23 at NYFW

We discovered the Mirror Palais Spring/Summer 2023 collection within the sacred walls of the Church of the Ascension, an apropos setting for the runway unveiled at New York Fashion Week. With a ray of sunlight streaming onto the altar, the women’s and men’s collection, designed by Marcelo Gaiaw, paraded down the church aisle evoking religious references while exuding a modern, seductive style. A color palette predominantly in black and white, with neutral and earthy tones peppered throughout, represented the darkness and the light — the good and the evil. A maroonish red and a vivid blue also accented the collection.
Head coverings added touches of reverance to very sexy, body-hugging creations. Corsetry and bustiers were a key element in the collection and a range of fabrics from sheer, satin, denim and even a crinkled/textural fabric was used to create modern day, seductive looks accessorized with religious-themed jewelry. This was truly a memorable runway event we won’t soon forget. Kudos to Gaiaw.
