Bamboo baskets and the artistry of Iizuka Rōkansai (1890-1958) serve as inspiration for the Mame Kurogouchi Spring/Summer 2023 season.
Unveiled on the runways of Paris Fashion Week, the latest collection explores varied weaving techniques and comes to life in a color palette of earthy, natural hues with touches of mint green which reference bamboo forests.
“I marvel at Rōkansai’s ability of conceiving new forms based on tradition while at the same time pushing the boundaries of it with his individual ability and delicate attention to daily life” Kurogouchi suggests.
The basket weaving inspiration is very evident in many of this season’s looks and when combined with the earthy color palette, there’s an organic and textural feel in many of the looks which contrast sharply with the more streamlined and tailored looks.
