Kamiya SS25 is a Modern Interpretation of Manhood at Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo
Discover the Kamiya SS25 “Mannish Boy” collection unveiled on day two of Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo on September 3, 2024. Designer Koji Kamiya drew inspiration by visiting local shops where he engaged directly with young fans to get a first-hand understanding of today’s youth. The resulting collection represents his philosophy of modern masculinity and style.
And as for the collection title, Kamiya discovered the 1955 song by Muddy Waters which speaks to a timeless message of self-affirmation.
Key Collection Highlights
- Trompe-l’oeil effect created by high-resolution scans of leather rider jackets and hippie denim
- Denim items shaped with wires to create deliberate distortions and waves
- Tailored jackets adorned with butterflies inspired by Kamiya’s family crest
The Result
For this Editor, the touches of butterflies, vivid florals and tailored/oversized jackets add beautiful, elevated touches to a streetwear collection for the youth. These intentional details imbue a softness and brightness to a world often filled with moments of darkness and conformity, while allowing one to break out from the everyday.
