For her second appearance at NYFW, Hibbert takes us to a journey back to her roots in Jamaica.
Behind the Kingston 7 YAAD capsule collection unveiled for this season and its playful and bright spirit, are deeper stories rooted in a history of struggles, political oppression, dreams, and the joy that emanated from Dance Hall music.
[x_blockquote cite=”Junny Hibbert” type=”left”]“Kingston 7 YAAD represents how the music of my people have always centered around reclamation as a response to oppression. The culture is adapted by many, but few understand the music. Mento, Revivalism and Kumina are a few of the sounds that were crafted from the streets. The music has always formed new cultural avenues for us and is the heart of our struggle. Big up yaad culture, Dance Hall music. Life rough and raw but the music keeps us going.”[/x_blockquote]
We’re excited to see what comes next from this designer as we dive even deeper into the world of Junny Hibbert.
