You just never know what Mother Nature will throw at you on any given day. It becomes even more of a statement when there’s an outdoor fashion show planned as was the case for the Gypsy Sport 10-year fashion anniversary extravaganza that was held on Gitano Island on day four of New York Fashion Week.
Fortunately for our team, the weather was still cooperating while capturing moments of the models, hair stylists and make up artists earlier in the afternoon.
As guests made their way to the island aboard the ferry and by the 6 pm showtime though, Mother Nature wasn’t cooperating and the skies had darkened. Clear, sunny skies had turned ominous and the skies opened up with a torrential downpour, forcing everyone to scramble and move the “outdoor” runway show to a new, covered venue on the island.
Despite the darkness, rain and last minute scramble, the Gypsy Sport 10-year collection was unveiled — filled with the bold, daring street-style created by designer and founder Rio Uribe. Models of all shapes and sizes, including drag super star Kandy Muse, strutted on a new runway celebrating a spirit of inclusivity and individuality at its finest.
This was a true celebration of the brand and a beautiful example of the perseverance needed to accomplish what we set out to do, and turn a dream into reality.
