Regal, medieval and chivalrous knights aren’t often associated with contemporary menswear, but the latest Denzil Patrick collection definitely delivers on the theme. And when the closing runway looks include a knight’s breast plate, you know that Creative Director Daniel Gayle is truly committed.

Gayle incorporates prints from crosses akin to those seen during the Crusades, to checker board patterns. Frills from feather-like accents to upturned collars, and flared sleeves, punctuate a range of looks that evoke modern-day knights with outerwear and trousers in quilted textures, belt-strap detailing, tunics, and headgear. Even oversized bag accessories represent shields — everything a modern day knight needs to survive daily, urban battles.

One other brilliant detail of note is the treatment of the trousers where it looks like dirt and mud have splashed onto the lower parts from all the marching and battles of war.

While the inspiration can easily get out of control, Gayle deftly creates a modern day collection that beautifully incorporates historical references, resulting in menswear clothing that has a clear point of view, modernity and interest — setting it apart from every other collection. This brilliant AW25 collection created in a color palette of regal hues is distinctive with a masculine flair and what this editor is calling, chivalrous fashion.
