Discover the film-inspired CHANEL Spring/Summer 2023 collection unveiled on the final day of Paris Fashion Week. For this latest collection, Virginie Viard takes inspiration from an unconventional French drama by Alain Resnais — Last Year in Marienbad (1961).
“The films we have seen, those that possess us and those we invent for ourselves, Marienbad, the Nouvelle Vague, the allure according to Gabrielle Chanel, Karl, the night, feathers, sequins, heels: I like it when things get mixed up,” observes Virginie Viard.
The result is a moody color palette grounded in black and white, earth tones and even muted pastels. The opening look on the runway consisted of a top created in a black and white, collage print capturing moments and faces, and then delicately shrouded by a sheer cape to let us peer into the world reimagined.
Iconic tweed in more tailored pieces is mixed in with lace and chiffon in more flowing and softer creations, yet all coming together to create a giant collage inspired by the past, but ready for the modern woman in a way that is distinctively CHANEL.
