Unveiled within the striking, former Palais de Justice in Dakar, Virginie Viard unleashed a soulful CHANEL 2022/23 Métiers d’art collection inspired by the spirit of the 1970’s woman.
“Going beyond the runway show, it’s the event as a whole that I took into account. We’ve been thinking about it for three years. I wanted it to happen gently, over several days of deep, respectful dialoguing,”
Virginie Viard
The latest collection is filled with plant motifs, geometric shapes, sparkles and sequins, and delicate lace intertwined with beautiful color in a range of looks from long, fitted coats to oversized sweatshirts. Exquisitely crafted with signature embroidery to multi-colored tweeds, and accented with flared trousers, platform shoes and collars, the spirit of the 70’s was evident throughout. What started out with the tailored elegance and refined silhouettes we except from CHANEL, the overall collection beautifully blended a bolder, more vibrant, and textured tonality reflective of the spirit of Dakar as well as the continued influence of streetwear.
Beyond the fashion, Viard also wanted to celebrate the Dakar artistic scene with dance with the École des Sables and Dimitri Chamblas, the choreographer of the Slow Show that welcomed guests to the runway show.
