According to show notes, the SS21 collection is “both a new chapter for PH5 as well as an ode to the rebirth of Australia following the devastating Bush fires in 2019.”

Champion shared her platform with women from the Firesticks Alliance, a group whose mission is to protect, conserve and enhance cultural and natural values of people and country through cultural fire and land management practices.

Throughout the collection, we find use of the fire motif and other nature-inspired shapes across a color palette of soft pastels. Silhouettes conjure a feeling of both modern/futuristic, yet with tribal influences of a time long gone.

“It’s like a huge pause button, the pandemic slowed everything down, but it allowed people to spend more time with their families and communicate more frequently. Love, family, and friends, has become a more intimate form in our lives. I really hope that my clothes can give people a feeling of happiness, relaxation and casual.” said Snow.

Filled with the casualness of fusing mix-and-match fabrics (of checks and florals) and varied weighted textures, the latest collection blends Snow’s strength in blending beautiful tailoring with bold prints and feminine touches for an unexpected, yet relevant, modern style.

Opening the beautiful digital event was actress Laura Vandervoort who was on fire in a stunning white power suit with bare midriff peeking through a knotted-tie blazer. A color palette fit for the upcoming SS21 season consisted of a range of soft pastels from cream and soft pink to yellow, blue, green and purple. The feminine collection filled with much movement and flow culminated in a dazzling beaded, nude-colored evening gown.

Within a woodland setting, feminine, soft silhouettes, ranging from cocktail dresses to the iconic evening gown were presented in a vivid color palette of pink, magenta, red, green and shades of blue to capture the beauty of florals and foliage of the season. Beautiful prints and details were found throughout the collection, but what caught our eye was the striking and accentuated shoulder design in several gowns and cocktail dresses which added to the drama.

Other talented finalists included Sakura Mizutani from Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Jenny Feng from Fashion Institute of Technology, Jennie Nguyen from Kent State University, Terrence Zhou from Parsons School of Design and Kyra Buenviaje from Rhode Island School of Design.

Forastieri’s vibrant collection titled Utopia, “aims to portray the hopeful story of a near future post-COVID in which humans unite to build a new system, one that stems with love and respect for the planet and, most importantly, each other.”

The virtual event was hosted by celebrity image architect, Law Roach, and returning for a sixth time, CFDA Award-winning evening wear designer Bibhu Mohapatra served as design mentor to the finalists.
