The collection forced Mishra to take pause and question the relevance of couture during these unsettling times. With his atelier and artisans impacted back home in his native India, the creation of the collection was a way to sustain life. This time of reflection and slowing of life in Delhi also revealed the colorful beauty of the landscape and gradual return of nature to a city filled with millions of inhabitants. This is the Stéphane Rolland couture collection fit for any queen.

For this upcoming season, Virginie Viard took inspiration from Karl Lagerfeld.
“I was thinking about a punk princess coming out of ‘Le Palace’ at dawn,” reveals Viard. “With a taffeta dress, big hair, feathers and lots of jewellery. This collection is more inspired by Karl Lagerfeld.”
The result, a more edgy, yet always sophisticated collection of 30 looks filled with shimmer, shine, jewels and embellished tweed. Punk hair style, brighter-bolder colors and definitely more attitude.

Inspiration for the collection titled, Madame President, is “a glimpse into a new era of aspirations, where women and men lead in collective strength to demand respect, equality, and a better tomorrow,” according to the collection notes.
Aside from the overall beauty of the collection which encompasses looks for both women and men, what is surprising is the sheer magnitude of pieces created and then actually unveiled at a show during these uncertain times filled with recent lockdowns, travel restrictions and closure of many businesses around the world. More than 40 looks walked an actual runway show filmed in the designer’s homeland. The ability to pull off a full runway show with so many couture pieces simply blew this editor’s mind.
Jewel encrusted creations, beautiful hues of aqua and pink, flowing gowns with exquisite prints, and a wedding gown creation as the finale piece came together to make this showstopper event the perfect way to cap off day one of Haute Couture Week.
