Designer: Bora Aksu
Runway Venue: Brewer Street Car Park, Soho – London
The Collection: The Bora Aksu SS16 collection started out innocently with white, lace and layered details that would lead one to believe in a very prim and proper theme. Designed on childhood memories of his family’s country house in Turkey, the color palette was inspired by the colors of a lush garden that Bora would enjoy as a child.
Set to a rebellious soundtrack, a contradiction to what I was expecting, the collection evolved to pale pinks, then deep corals and brighter, richer shades of yellow, magentas and orange. And with a richer color palette came tattooed foreheads and designs that were more sheer and rebellious. These were no longer garments or a look for a Sunday brunch with grandma.
Mixed in with the sheerness and lace were a few detailed floral print pieces and separates that added texture to the overall collection. Some were topped off with a floral crown as if woven from the very garden that Bora would play in as a child. While the floral print pieces were more texturally graphic, they were still more subtle than the bulk of the collection. Overall, I saw this as a beautiful collection of rebellious innocence inspired by childhood days of spring and summers gone by.
