Titled “First Sight,” the Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2023 women’s collection was unveiled in a clear-domed runway set amidst the grounds of The Admiral’s House, Old Royal Naval College in London. With the opening look featuring a giant eye on a black mesh/draped dress and a waist-high leg reveal, one beautifully tailored and sophisticated look after another wound its way through the enclosed, circular and intimate setting.
“This collection is about searching for humanity and human connection. The eye is a symbol of that humanity, a register of emotion, an expression of uniqueness. Our clothes are designed to empower. They are stripped back, dissected and focused on cut, drape and silhouette. We also looked at the work of Hieronymus Bosch, at once dark and beautiful.” ~ Sarah Burton, Creative Director
In addition to the use of the enlarged eye graphic on several looks, other key elements of the collection include the tuxedo style and double breasted jackets, slashed dresses, side reveals, asymmetrical skirts and shoulders, and the bodysuit with cuts outs and crystal eye embroidery modeled by supermodel Naomi Campbell.
