San Diego born surfer and model Tristan Detwiler made his debut at NYMD with this SS21 collection inspired by the SoCal coastal lifestyle.
“I learned the story of an antique quilt while in my final semester. It had been sitting collecting dust for 30 plus years. Originally handmade by this grandmother in 1880, it had been passed down for 140 years, touching each family member so closely. While holding this piece, I felt I had the obligation to revive what was ingrained in each stitch of this textile. Each name signed upon this blanket, each piece of wool from different family members’ wool suits, and each makeshift mend throughout the years, called for attention, and I knew I was the conduit,” said Tristan.
