I was sitting in the audience during London Fashion Week in an intimate setting to see his Autumn/Winter 2020 collection in the heart of London.
Today on September 8, as part of Mercedes-Benz Prague Fashion Week, designer Kalfar live-streamed his Spring/Summer 2021 collection to a socially-distanced, global audience at jirikalfar.com and creatively via special VR glasses sent out to global guests unable to travel during these challenging times, like yours truly.
The theme for the SS21 collection — “White is a rebirth, a breath of fresh air. White is a beginning to an end, an everlasting continuation. White is the colour of the first spring flowers. White is pure and simple, white never lies.”
So during this virtual event, a predominantly white color palette walked down the runway with accents of black, lavender, cream and gold. Each look was created under Kalfar’s philosophy of ethical and sustainable fashion using organic and cruelty free materials ranging from Buddhist ahimsa silk, vegan leather, pineapple and mushroom leather, vintage lace and banana thread to name just a few. All garments were constructed in-house following a zero waste policy.
Fluid, delicate pieces were draped on female and male models. Overall there was a fusion of softness and sensuality through sheer and strategic cutouts, with a hint of Victorian sensibility through the extensive use of vintage lace paired with lustrous silk.
One of my favorite looks this season was the black mini cocktail dress filled with delicate lace details and appliqué, creating a beautiful texture and silhouette. Sophisticated, sexy and modern.
