There are the grand boulevards of Paris and of course strolling along the banks of the Champs-Élysées. Then there are the long walks with gelato in hand along the cobblestone streets of Rome – in fact, anywhere in Italy qualifies in my book. Or maybe, the shores of a tranquil beach at sunset on one of the beautiful islands of Hawaii and of course there are the numerous islands in the Caribbean from which to choose, each surrounded by azure waters as far as the eye can see. I’m sure that you’ve already conjured up a list of places that represent romance to you.
And to be able to share that destination with someone who you love by whisking them away to experience it with you… now that’s a true “pampering experience” that they’ll never forget.
For me, my mind drifts off to a somewhat unexpected place, Barcelona to be exact.
Nestled on the northeast corner of Spain along the Mediterranean is an incredibly beautiful city that is meant to be enjoyed with someone special in your life. I’ve been fortunate to visit Barcelona twice and each time, it continues to call me back for more.
From strolling along the vibrant La Rambla filled with sights and sounds to stimulate all your senses, to spending a relaxing afternoon in the beauty of Park Güell, to exploring the range of stores along the ritzy Passeig de Gràcia and getting lost in the ancient streets of the Barri Gòtic, the romance in Barcelona for me is due to the beauty around every turn thanks to the genius of Antoni Gaudí. Known for the Sagrada Família landmark that we all associate with Barcelona, there are numerous places peppered throughout Barcelona that represent his creativity.
The intricate and ornate details, the explosion of colors, beautiful, yet unexpected curves and undulations shaping structures and shapes that one could classify as insanity instead of art — his work is stunning and defines the city for me. Where else can you see floral structures growing out of building facades or alien-looking heads adorning the roof top of a building?
Barcelona is a city of beauty! Experience it for yourself and you’ll understand why it’s a city of romance and a perfect place to pamper that special someone in your life. And don’t forget to sample the range of delicious bite-sized tapas that’s perfect for sharing. There’s nothing more sensual than eating with your hands.

My favorite city. And definately a place to fall in love.
I had no idea Jim 🙂
Know Europe pretty back-and-forth but Spain has not stretched a ‘come hither’ arm too often . . .well know Madrid and surrounds . . . love this picture of Barcelona and Gaudi’s work gives my omissions a guilty veneer. Beautiful photos Danny and I DO have the city firmly in my sights!! Of course have to make it to Chicago for a glass or a cup first 🙂 !
It’s ok Eha — I too love Madrid. But there is definitely a beauty in Barcelona that we all owe to the mastermind of Gaudi. Yes, you have to come to Chicago one day 🙂
