The Timeless Beauty of CHANEL at The 2023 Met Gala

To celebrate the opening of the The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” CHANEL ambassadors and friends of the House gathered at The 2023 Met Gala on May 1, 2023.

Black and white was the color palette of choice for the evening and the lasting legacy of Karl Lagerfeld on the House of CHANEL was evident in the timeless looks which paraded onto the red carpet.

Co-Chairs Penelope Cruz and Dua Lipa brought vintage CHANEL glam on this night of fashion. CHANEL Ambassador Penelope Cruz was radiant in a custom long dress with a large shawl collar in light blue organza embroidered with silver sequins and a silver leather belt embellished with pearls inspired by look 81, from the Haute Couture Spring-Summer 1988 collection. Dua Lipa was regal in a corseted dress in ivory wool tweed with a matching bolero jacket, look 97, from the Haute Couture Fall-Winter 1992 collection.

CHANEL Ambassador Kristen Stewart showcased look 5 from the CHANEL Cruise 2016/17 collection — a white cotton drill jacket with a white silk chiffon blouse and black cotton gabardine pants.

CHANEL Ambassador Margot Robbie wore a black silk chiffon dress embellished with clear plastic and gold metal chains, look 62, from the Haute Couture Spring-Summer 1993 collection. 

CHANEL Ambassador Jennie wore an ivory duchesse satin bustier dress embellished with a white camélia and a black ribbon, look 164, from the Fall-Winter 1990/1991 Ready-to-Wear collection.

CHANEL Ambassador Margaret Qualley wore a flirty black silk lace mini dress with a black satin jumpsuit, look 85, from the Haute Couture Spring-Summer 1997 collection.

CHANEL Ambassador Marion Cotillard wore a short dress in white organza embroidered with silver sequins and pieces of organza painted with metallic paint and embellished with large organza panels with flounces on both side of the shoulders, look 59, from the Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2007/2008 collection. 

CHANEL Ambassador Whitney Peak wore a white organza top fully embroidered with fantasy flowers with a mermaid skirt pleated with silk tulle flounces, look 35, from the Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2021/22 collection.

Nicole Kidman wore the custom dress she wore in the CHANEL N°5 advertising campaign directed by Baz Luhrmann in 2004. The Dress is made of pink silk tulle with 250 pink feathers, more than 3000 silver crystals and sequins, and is accented with a long train.

Gisèle Bündchen wore a dress in white silk tulle embroidered with vertical stripes of white sequins and a dramatic white silk tulle long cape embellished with feathers and camelias, look 58, from the Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2007 collection. 

Naomi Campbell wore a striking pink draped silk satin dress embroidered with scrolls of silver sequins and glass beads, look 48, from the Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2010 collection. 

CHANEL Ambassador Angèle wore a custom black silk crepe georgette dress inspired by look 149 from the Spring-Summer 1995 Ready-to-Wear collection. 

Lizzo wore a custom black silk crêpe dress with a glass pearl harness, inspired by look 129, from the Fall-Winter 1991/92 Ready-to-Wear collection.

Kendrick Lamar wore a custom black leather jacket inspired by look with CHANEL black wool pants.
