Known for creating monochromatic looks in a single hue each season, Dr. Tiffany Brown, creator of Tiffany Brown Designs, did not disappoint for Fall/Winter 2023 as she unveiled her “Grey” collection on day two of New York Fashion Week.
This runway event marked her debut at Spring Studios and also her 10th anniversary of showing in NYC. Before the start of the show, this Editor played a guessing game of what color would be the focus for the season ahead. Let’s just say the answer was wrong — never in a million years thinking it would be grey.
Why grey?
“The color grey is truth and wisdom. I wanted to explore grey because of its meaning of intelligence but also because grey is sometimes hard to find,” stated Brown. “I want to explore the spectrum of grey not just in traditional business casual but also in evening wear and men’s wear in silks and satins.”
With each look that paraded down the runway, Brown created a beautiful collection in which each creation had its own personality and attitude, all while incorporating grey tones. Who knew grey could be so satisfying and also sexy?
Her opening look definitely set the runway tone with its deep grey hue and voluminous puffer coat, creating an unexpected and layered silhouette. Vegan fur was an added textural layer to several looks. A men’s cape with silver buttons was another beautiful piece that stood out for us, but there were too many to call out. And of course, a Tiffany Brown Designs runway show wouldn’t be complete without a dreamy and romantic, finale gown. This season’s finale look did not disappoint with its fusion of “hard” bustier/strap top, blended into a softly ruffled and flowing skirt.
Who is Dr. Tiffany Brown?
We had a chance to learn more about this talented designer from Atlanta who got into fashion when she started as a boutique owner and grew increasingly frustrated with the lack of classic clothing available.
She describes her customer as elegant, a classic woman from 21 to 55 and a person who cares more about timeless quality than price.
When asked about her use of monochromatic theming, Brown replied “my monochromatic theme of one color is very common in the South. Southern people are very theme color oriented and so my design work grew from there.”
Since its founding in 2008 and relaunch in 2013, the brand itself isn’t afraid of taking risks with texture and venturing into menswear or the use of sustainable materials.
This Editor definitely can’t wait to see what’s next. For her debut at Spring Studios — bravo Dr. Brown, bravo!
